Natural Eczema Treatment: Beat Eczema With It!

Diagnosing eczema or dermatitis, a common skin complaint is tough; much less totally cure it as studies have shown that there is no definite cure for eczema so far. However, there are ways to treat eczema, one of which is the natural eczema treatment. What I am about to share with you are several methods for you to try out. But do note that this list is not exhaustive. Here goes...

1. Capsaicin
You might be thinking whether this is related to capsicum...well, I did, when I first came across this word. Anyway, capsaicin is the ingredient that causes the burn in hot food like chili peppers. When this novel natural eczema treatment is applied to long-term severe eczema, it burns initially, just like how your mouth burns when you eat hot food. But a moment later, the burning and itching stops as capsaicin reduces Substance P, the itch chemical.

2. Salt Baths
This natural eczema treatment has been used for eons, and it's impossible to trace the origin of this treatment. People usually associate salt baths to Dead Sea, which helps clear eczema but we do not know why. It could be due to the combination of saltwater and ultraviolet rays. Taking a salt bath at home has the same benefit.

Another study compared children suffering from severe eczema who were taken to a beach with and without dolphins. The eczema in children who went to the beach with dolphins cleared up faster than those who went to the beach without them. So, it's really up to one to believe the effectiveness.

3. Instant Emollient from the Kitchen Cupboard
This natural eczema treatment refers to the use of vegetable oil, for example, sunflower or olive oils and even hydrogenated vegetable oil. But of course, these greasy oils emit a fairly strong smell and should be used only as the last resort, which is you have run out of emollient.

4. Redbush Tea
Rooibos tea has traditionally been used in South Africa for it skin healing properties. It's said to help ease eczema when drunk and also soothe the skin when added to baths. This may be due to its quercetin content but there is no clinical evidence to back these claims though.

5. Virgin Coconut Oil
Virgin coconut oil is a must-try for eczema sufferers with dry, chapped skin. It is a great moisturizer with natural oils that are perfect for the human skin.

6. Probiotics
You can obtain 'good bacteria' from probiotics, which are made up of non-disease causing 'bugs'. The 'bugs' are naturally found in our digestive systems. Probiotics are found in cultured or fermented food such as cheese or live yoghurt, but also in supplements, that can be taken in tablets or capsules, or as an ingredient in yoghurt drinks. There are certain probiotic products specially made for children, who need probiotics more.

Some research has shown that giving probiotics to pregnant mothers and newborn babies might even lower the risk of the child developing eczema by 50 per cent in the first couple of years of life. However, do consult your doctor before embarking on this form of natural eczema treatment if in doubt.

There are no reported side-effects associated with probiotics, but it can be quite difficult to gauge the consumption level and whether probiotics suit you. Seek your doctor's advice first.

I believe you would have a clearer picture of how to go about using natural eczema treatment by now.
